30 Before 30

A couple years ago, a friend of mine spent her 29th year of life doing 30 things she had always wanted to do before she turned 30 years old. At the time, I was 25 and thought I would have 5 years to do that (instead of having to feel like I had to fit in 30 things in one year). So my bestie and I sat down with a bunch of colored Sharpies (because duh.) and made a list. I'm happy to say I have really accomplished a lot of them! I still have a couple years to go, and a few big ticket items. Some are business related, most are just 'I've always wanted to do' items.
1. Take a spontaneous trip to Ikea. (Usually it's a planned out trip, but this one was easy to accomplish!)
2. Completely makeover a large piece of furniture  (dining room table!)
3. Get organized. (This will never happen. haha)
4. Make a pie from scratch (including dough).
5. Take a trip to NYC. (Planning for 2016)
6. Shoot 15 weddings in one year. (The next year I shot 34 weddings, and this year I'm booked for 30! Eeek!)
7. Buy something from Tiffany's. (hint hint... husband)
8. Throw a fancy Christmas or New Years Eve party.
9. No more apartment living.
10. Photograph 2 destination weddings. (I'm halfway there! I photographed one last year, and have 3 booked for this year!)
11. Go on a family vacation every year.
12. Travel more (definitely accomplishing this!)
13. Go to Graceland (HUGE ELVIS FAN)
14. Pay off all credit cards.
15. Get a dog (We welcomed Burton Guster, or Gus, last August!)
16. Perfect my chili recipe.
17.
Get a studio. (Just moved in 2 months ago!)
18. Sew something again. (I used to love sewing, but haven't had time to do it much in the last few years)
19. Go hiking again.
20.
Potty train Harper. (I knew this would happen but I had to make it a goal. haha!)
21. Spend a whole day binge watching shows on Netflix. (This has happened a few too many times.)
22. Go on a girls weekend trip.
23.
Go to WPPI. (Just got back on Thursday!!)
24. Go on an anniversary trip with Matt. (We're planning on Boston in August!)
25. Go back to Tennessee for Chili-fest.
26. See the Christmas lights at the Opryland Hotel.
27. Regularly tithe.
28. See at least 25 states. (By the end of this year I'll be at 19!)
29. Shoot a gun.
30. Photograph an epic proposal.
Okay. I still have wayyyy more to accomplish than I realized. Yikes! I have a couple more years to go. I can't wait to accomplish all of it.

2015 Is a Newer Year

I tell myself this every year. I write a blog post (that never actually gets posted), pretty much exactly like this one; at some point in December. With the plans to post it and change and become reformed. ALL FROM A BLOG POST.

Well that's just silly.

The way I run my business (or don't run it) won't change all from a post.

What will change it, is actually sticking to my guns. Choosing my family over my job, which this is by the way, as it does pay my bills. ;) Choosing putting my daughter to bed at night, over emailing or editing.

The thing with this job is the hours are crazy. With cell phones, tablets, free wi-fi, etc; I'm able to stay connected to my business 24/7.  I wake up in the morning, and before I get out of bed, I check my email. If there's anything that's urgent, I email right then and there. From my pillow, sleep still in my eyes. I usually eat lunch at my desk, my kid watches t.v. or plays games by herself more than I'd care to admit. I literally feel bad for showering sometimes (sorry if you've seen me in public on those days). My house is a wreck and I can go weeks without seeing my friends or family.  I caught myself emailing during date night with my husband. *sad trumpet*

This is in NO WAY a pity party. Because I, for real, love this job.  It is my blood, my sweat, and my tears and it's 100% personal.  Every good thing, every bad thing, every indifferent thing. I take it all to heart. Because, as incredibly cheesy as this is, each photo is my heart. I photograph families, engagements, weddings. All of those are about LOVE. I photograph love.  And that, I don't take lightly.  If you have met me or know me at all, you know I freaking love my 'job'.  I only consider this a job, because I pay my bills. It isn't a hobby for me. This is a full time, tax-paying, insured,  J.O.B.  That's why I'm being honest with my fans/clients/followers.

Right now my schedule is KDP all day, every day. I have no set days off, I have no set 'office hours', I just work all the time.  And honestly, I'm insanely scared of getting burnt out. Which is why I'm setting hours. Effective immediately. The hours I'm setting are going to be completely weird. And when the busy season picks back up, my hours will most likely change. I want to make sure you all get the very best of me. My very best work, my very best correspondence, all of it. I won't be hiring an assistant, although I most likely will be taking on an intern at some point.

My new schedule will be as follows.

Sunday: OFF. This is family day, no exceptions. When it starts to get warmer and the season picks up,  I will be booking one Sunday a month with one shoot in the evening. As always, it's first come/first served. So if you want/need a Sunday...book now.
Monday: 8:00am-10:30am; 1pm-3pm
Tuesday: 1pm-3pm; 10pm-1am
Wednesday: 8am-5pm
Thursday: 1pm-3pm; 10pm-1am
Friday: 8am-10:30am; 1pm-3pm
Saturday: This depends on the week. Once March hits, this will be weddings only. I will no longer be booking portrait shoots on Saturdays. I will, however, book mini shoots (possibly in the spring/summer, definitely in the fall) on a Saturday TBD.

I know this seems like the worlds weirdest schedule, but I think it will be what's best for me, you, my family/friends, and mostly my sanity.

Here are a couple other things to take note of:
-If we're friends on Facebook (or even if we're not): please please please, DO NOT message me on my personal Facebook about booking a shoot. Even if you just want to know pricing, email is best. Or submit a contact form through my website.
- Galleries will be emailed out when I work late hours.
- I will be offering mentoring sessions in 2015! Yay!! I'm finishing up the logistics but this is something I've really been wanting to offer and I think it's time.
- I will not be booking any sessions (except weddings and an occasional day of mini sessions) on Saturdays.  Friday evenings, and one Sunday a month will be set aside for other sessions. I will continue to book sessions during the week.  No more than 2 sessions (+ a wedding) a week.
- And, as always, shoots will be booked, first come/first served, in the evenings, around 1 hour before sunset. On special occasions, sunrise shoots may be booked, but those also must happen around an hour after sunrise (or before).

Please ask any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. I can't wait to see what 2015 brings to KDP!

Tom + Jeanette | Greenwood Indiana Winchester Place Wedding Photographer

Getting to work with Tom and Jeanette was such a treat. They had a small bridal party, which I don't get to see often, they were blending families (which is always a neat thing to witness), and they had corn-hole!

Tom also planned easily the greatest and most romantic First Look. The video is at the bottom of the post. I promise it's a treat. (also: I'm not a videographer...hahah and neither is my second shooter...so be nice.)

The blog is making a comeback!!

First up is Billy and Charlotte!

When we met last year, I knew we'd have a blast on the day of.  When you meet Billy and Char you know right off the bat they'd do anything for each other. They are so fun and silly with each other. It's incredibly refreshing.

Here are some of my favorites from their wedding day.

Changes are a-coming!

Not exactly sure how to start this blog post out...so here we go.

I'm taking a step back. I'm SO SO SO incredibly blessed that I am this busy. It's because all of you wonderful people. 99% of what I book is through referrals. Referrals come from YOU. And I am so thankful.

I have an awful time turning people away, and saying no. So in turn, I'm overbooking. And there's little I dislike more than overbooking.  I pride myself on my customer service.  I want each client to feel like my only client.

On top of being a small business owner (and running everything behind the scenes on my own...I am Katy, hear me roar!), I'm also a wife, mom, daughter, and friend. And I am failing BIG time on those titles.

So I've decided, that as of now, I'm no longer booking any new clients in need of these types of shoots: family, senior, newborn, baby, child...etc. If you have EVER booked with me in the past (weddings included) I have no problem scheduling with you! If you're a future wedding client, contact me!! I'm still booking weddings for 2014 and have started booking for 2015.  If you have already contacted me,  you're okay too! I just don't think I can (in good conscious) take on more new clients.

I'm hoping this change will create a quicker turn-around, less stress, and more time to blog everyone's pretty photos! I WILL take new clients later on in the year, but this summer is packed for now. So keep an eye out on my Facebook page ( Katy Davis Photography ) if you're a new client. I will keep everyone updated on that page.

Angie + Nathan | Greenwood, Indiana Wedding Photographer

So this wedding.

Here's the thing, Angie is one of my very best friends. So in turn, Nathan has become one of my very good friends. Nathan has been prayed for YEARS before he came into the picture. What an answered prayer.

I can't even describe it. It took me over a week to decide what photos to blog. I had to pare it down from 150 favorites. yeeeeesh

So, I cut it down to 149 favorites. ;)

It was this moment when I LOST IT. I mean. The look on his face when he saw his bride.

There was this moment during the ceremony, and they had the worship guys singing an amazing worship song. The Holy Spirit was thick in that room and there wasn't a dry eye in the barn.

It was approx. -92827 degrees on their wedding day. So we didn't get as many couple shots as I would have liked, so we have a date planned in June for a dreamy, whimsical, sunset shoot and I CAN.NOT.WAIT.

Congrats to my friends Angie and Nathan!

Rachel + Lane | Greenwood Indiana Engagement Photographer

Rachel and Lane are getting married! We had a total blast walking around Indianapolis on Mass Ave. and then had even more fun freezing our behinds off at my favorite farm. We laughed through the cold! haha!
